Cassandra from the United States visited Japan during Cherry Blossom season and stayed with our host Kyoko in Tokyo. The magical Cherry Blossom season occurs from Mid-March to late April or even early May. Staying in a homestay allows you to get the inside track from the locals on the best "sakura" spots for example Chidorigafuchi Park in Tokyo.

This was my first time visiting Tokyo and finding a good host was a bonus to my trip. Kyoto went above and beyond for me and I really felt like part of the family. One time, she surprised her with a delicious homemade chocolate cake. I prefer homestay because it feels like living at "home". I get to meet the local people (host) and other travelers at the house. It is useful when I need to inquire any information, I know my host is there for me. Also, it is fun to exchange traveling experience or tips from other travelers (house guests).

Coming to Japan during cherry blossom season is always on my bucket list. And I am so happy that my dream came true!! The cherry blossom season only last for a few weeks so definitely need to do some research & plan ahead. Definitely have to visit the Imperial Palace, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and the river next to Sensoji Temple, there are gorgeous cherry blossom trees!!
Also, for the ladies, I highly recommended to dress up in kimono (traditional Japanese outfit) It costs about 4,000 yen and you get to walk around town with the beautiful kimono, the experience is definitely priceless!
When I travel, I like to go to see things that I can't find anywhere else... so in Japan, definitely the temple & shrine.

If you like shows, check out their traditional kabuki and sumo shows. Since language is the barrier, the Ginza Kabukiza theater sells one act only for 1,500 yen. It is perfect for me who just want a little taste of traditional Japanese show. I love spa... so visit a hot spring spa is a must on my list!!

Try their local food~ I can eat western food anytime in my home country. I like to blend in to their culture and get the fullest experience when I travel. I love architectures so I will visit the unique buildings or places that I can't find anywhere in the world. I also like to check out their traditional shows, in Japan it will be Kabuki and Sumo shows.
