Millennials: Hard to Please or Homestay Heroes?

Each generation has a name tag: the newest kid on the block is the millennial.

They are the young twenty-something professionals who live by their smartphone and are used to a life that is forever online.

When it comes to travel, they’re looking for something unique that's an an escape from the norm. Generic hotel rooms and rite of passage hostels simply don't cut it - they want to feel that their holiday experience is unlike any other. And to top it all off, they snap, tweet and share quicker than you can read this blog post!

Millenials are not afraid to go off the beaten track when they travel and to make their own plans. They crave a different experience that they will then upload to social media. The familiar routes and cities that every tourist before them has trodden no longer hold any appeal. They want an experience that's unique to them.

Travel is by its very nature experiential. The challenge lies in how to customise each experience to suit the needs of a millennial without them feeling pandered to. At some point, we all have to take the same train, bus or aeroplane. Their choice of accommodation can bring a new and different dimension to their travel experiences.

Homestays are the perfect fit for this new generation of travellers, offering a unique and authentic travel experience each time. No two homestays will be the same.

A homestay offers something that is not bound by age or demographic as all our host families are different and give guests a unique insight into the daily life of another country and its culture.

A millenial's much craved travel experience, whether shared via Instagram and Flickr, or retold over drinks with friends back home, can be truly memorable and unique to them.
